Fragaria × ananassa PINK PANDA 'Frel' is a sun-loving ornamental strawberry vine which grows fairly fast, but not invasively, into a colourful groundcover peppered with one-inch bright pink flowers with yellow centers from spring right on through to November.

About this genus:
Fragaria is a genus of flowering plants in the rose family (Rosaceae) commonly known as strawberries for their edible fruits. There are more than 20 described species and many hybrids and cultivars. The botanical name Fragaria (fraj-ar-e-a or fra-gar-e-a) comes from the latin word for strawberry, fraga; or from the latin fragans, meaning sweet smelling. To be pedantic, strawberries are not true berries - the seeds are outisde the fruit, not inside! Although it is commonly thought that strawberries get their common name from straw being used as a mulch in cultivating the plants, the etymology of the word is uncertain.
Fragaria need sun, like most fruit! Most soils will do as long as the are not too heavy - think fruits! They make great ground cover and look fantastic at the edge of a border. Try them with smaller Geranium, Epimedium or even Primula.
